Chinese Ink-Cakes in a Lacquered Box
Set of Five Chinese Ink-Cakes in a Lacquered Box. Its outer case is brocade coated, with calligraphy of Chinese Grand Master Liu Haisu, in 7 characters meaning “The Choice of Chinese Painting Masters”. These ink-cakes were prepared by the Old Anhui Studio “Hu-Kai-Wen”, with a thousand years old prescription from Southern Tang Dynasty. These five master-grade ink-cakes are of top quality, each with gilt calligraphy on one side and a gilt mountain view on the other side (Five mounting views all together.) The calligraphy belongs to Lu Yanshao, a master landscape painter. The five mountains are the most famous in China. They are: Tai, Huang, Emei, Yantang and Lu. Each ink-cake measures 4 3/8” x 2 ¼” x ½”, and the original case measures 8” x 6 ¼” x 1 7/8”. If you are collecting Chinese scholar’s objects, this set of ink cakes is perhaps the BEST you can get from China.
