|Set of Five Chinese Ink-Cakes in a Lacquered Box. Its outer case is brocade coated, with
calligraphy of Chinese Grand Master Liu Haisu, in 7 characters meaning “The Choice of
Chinese Painting Masters”. These ink-cakes were prepared by the Old Anhui Studio
“Hu-Kai-Wen”, with a thousand years old prescription from Southern Tang Dynasty.
These five master-grade ink-cakes are of top quality, each with gilt calligraphy on one side
and a gilt mountain view on the other side (Five mounting views all together.) The
calligraphy belongs to Lu Yanshao, a master landscape painter. The five mountains are the
most famous in China. They are: Tai, Huang, Emei, Yantang and Lu. Each ink-cake
measures 4 3/8” x 2 ¼” x ½”, and the original case measures 8” x 6 ¼” x 1 7/8”. If you
are collecting Chinese scholar’s objects, this set of ink cakes is perhaps the BEST you can
get from China.
