A Fine Iron-red Tankard, Jiaqing Era,1796-1821
This beautiful big cup with handle finely painted with iron-red flowers and fruits all over the body, famille rose fret border on both the upper and lower rim, circa late 18th-early 19th century, Jiaqing period. What so special about this cup is the previous owner in China had dip it into a very dark green color wall-paint, intentionally cover it so can survive the “culture revolution” in Mao’s period, during that time all antiques will be destroy by "red guard" regardless. It was all cover by thick paint when we first got it, took a while to make it back to its original shape. Amazingly it is still in very good condition. You can see there is a open area in the lower part of the handle, but it still attach to the body, not broken, it should be just a kiln defect.Size 5 inches high, 4 inches diameter.
