BINH THUAN SHIP WRECK, MING DYNASTY
It is believed that the Binh Thuan wreck was the lost ship of the Chinese merchant, I Sin Ho. The junk went down off the coast of Binh Thuang province, southern Vietnam in 1608. The plate is the twin phoenix pattern and was made in Zhaozhou, in southern China, around the turn of the 17th century. As usual with Swatow ceramics the base is heavily encrusted in sand on which the plate was fired in the kiln.Size 10 3/4 inches.
